Employment Conclusion

While our hope is that you will have a long and rewarding experience with Be in Christ, there are a variety of situations by which your employment could come to a conclusion.

Resignations

In the event that a staff member wishes to resign from Be in Christ, sufficient written notice is required. For some positions, this may be a minimum of two weeks’ written notice. In other cases, it may be prudent to provide at least thirty days’ written notice to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities.

Involuntary Terminations

It is an unfortunate reality of organizational life that involuntary terminations are activated. There are two situations where this could occur. One, when the organization terminates employment for “cause.” Two, when employment is terminated “without cause”. The definition of “cause” includes, but is not limited to, willful misconduct, willful neglect of duty, and a material breach of the Team Policy Handbook.  In the case of just and reasonable “cause” terminations, Be in Christ will have the absolute right to terminate the employment of a staff member without notice and without any payment or compensation in lieu of notice. In the case of “without cause”, Be in Christ may terminate a staff member’s employment at any time, without just and reasonable cause, upon providing payment and/or written notice as is required by the Ontario Employment Standards Act. When an employee is terminated without cause compensation will be limited to the statutory requirements of the Ontario Employment Standards Act.

Involuntary terminations must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Executive Director and, in some cases, the Board of Directors, to ensure that any applicable policies have been applied in a consistent, fair and equitable manner.

Exit Interviews

If you choose to resign who resign will be given an opportunity for an exit interview with the Executive Director or supervisor. This provides an opportunity to discuss your experience at Be in Christ and your reasons for leaving. This is also an opportunity for Be in Christ to understand what is going well and what areas might require improvement. Any information gathered through the exit interview will be kept in confidence, unless you have expressly provided permission to share the contents of your interview. The information that you provide will help leadership address concerns and encourage organizational health.

Providing References

When you resign you may ask for a reference letter. Your supervisor or the Executive Director will provide a reference, only upon the written permission of the person about whom the reference is to be provided. This will be limited to only your dates of employment, and your position. Whether or not a letter of reference will be provided will be based on a case by case basis.
